Music and PE
Welcome to a brand new school year. Our classroom theme in music this year is "Explore and Discover Music". That theme is displayed on the wall, and each class is coloring some little picture to go along with it. I hope everyone finds something new and fun in class this year!
KINDERGARTEN PE AND MUSIC: Week of October 17
In music this week, we are continuing on in our book - focusing on "movement" in songs and music in general. Many action songs help to explain this idea and repeat the lesson on movement. We will begin thinking about Christmas songs soon.
In PE, we'll use the scooter boards with various activities. We'll also work with some balls, and some jumping games. All of these activities strengthen co-ordination skills.
1ST GRADE MUSIC
This week, we introduce the strong beat and the weak beat. We also discuss having two and three sounds to a beat. Several songs and movement activities stress this lesson. We'll also start thinking about higher and lower pitches and how this forms a melodic shape.
2nd GRADE MUSIC
This week, we will watch "the Nutcracker". Several students have seen it already, but I'm sure they'll watch it again! We have discussed the basic story, and will watch the movie rather than the ballet.
3rd GRADE MUSIC
We are ready for another Assessment test - based on things we have covered in class. We are spending quite a bit of time on rhythm patterns, and will be creating and performing some later in the week. All classes will be starting to look at some Christmas music.
4th GRADE MUSIC
We will start the week with a quiz on the Woodwind Family. Everyone seems to be doing well in our study of the instrument families. When we cover all of them, we'll have a review and quiz over the entire lesson. We are also looking at rhythm patterns and creating a group pattern to perform.
5th GRADE MUSIC
Fifth grade will touch lightly on the subject of Beethoven and hear a few of his creations. We'll also work with the pitch syllables and becoming more familiar with them.
6th GRADE MUSIC
We have been trying some 2-part music, and will read through some Christmas possibilities this week. This is a short week, so time is somewhat limited. We are also reviewing note values and time signatures (meter signatures).
