    SCIENCE CLASS REQUIREMENTS AND GRADING

    COVER YOUR BOOK!!

Grading will be based on lab work, daily work, quizzes, and tests.  Participation grades are part of daily work.

Testing:  after each section; 100 points, about half short answer and explanation:  accounts for 50% of total quarter grade.

Quizzes:  on reading assignments and daily notes.

Quarter grades will be based on tests (50%), quizzes (20%), lab/activities (15%), and daily work (15%)

Tests missed:  make-up next day; exceptions based on length of absence.  If you are present for chapter coverage but miss review, you will take test on assigned day.  If you are back in school the afternoon of test day, you are to take the teat during your afternoon study hall or arrange a time.  Talk to me!!!

Late assignments:  accepted with a good excuse (eg. your house burned down the night before); loss of 20% per day.  After one week, you will receive a zero.

Daily assignments, quizzes, and lab activities will be graded on a point basis.

Computers:  Only used when instructed.  Follow guidelines.

Semester grade:  each quarter grade twice plus semester test grade; total divided by five.  The semester test is worth one fifth your semester grade.

Notebooks:  have one large enough for notes (2-4 pages per day).  Tests are taken primarily from notes.

I will NOT accept any work done in red, orange, pink or similar colors.

Cheating:  zero for work involved and a call to your parents and a note to the principal.  See student handbook.

If your behavior is not appropriate and interferes with the learning process, you will be asked to leave to classroom and detention will be given.  Detention may be with me and before school in the morning.

    Lowest grade dropped each quarter.

BONUS WORK AVAILABLE:  LISTEN AND ASK. Usually up to 5 critical thinking questions in chapters covered by a test. These are found at the end of the chapter sections and at the end of each chapter.

    HAVE ACCESS TO COLORED PENCILS.

I WILL CHECK OVER YOUR NOTES AT ANY TIME:  ARRANGE A MEETING, PREFERABLY BEFORE SCHOOL.

BE RESPECTFUL OF PROPERTY AND OTHER STUDENTS.
