During
our tour of the Northeast region, we will board a train to experience the many
great cities of the Northeast and check out other exciting attractions along the way. At
each stop, we will collect & gather information to add to our Regional Scrapbooks we will be creating as
we travel. We will begin our tour at West Quoddy Head, Maine.
Out the windows of the train, we were
able to see the famous lighthouse that sounds a foghorn to warn ships that
they are close to land. We then saw Mt. Washington, standing at 6,288 feet tall. Located in
the state of New Hampshire, it is the tallest peak in the northeast.
You will need the following train ticket as we head to Plymouth Massachusetts!
We found out that Plymouth, Massachusetts is where the Mayflower, carrying pilgrims from England, first landed. We were able to see a close replica of the Mayflower, the Mayflower II, built by England in 1957 as a gift to America. As we toured Mayflower II, we learned about the Mayflower
Compact, an agreement that said the pilgrims would set up a government and
make laws for the good of everyone. As we toured Plymouth, we saw many cranberry fields and cranberry factories.

| We learned that Boston, Massachusetts was the place where the first fighting broke out
between colonists and British troops to begin the Revolutionary War. |
Our next stop is Hershey, Pennsylvania.

 In Hershey, Pennsylvania, we visited
the Hershey Chocolate Factory. We had fun sampling Hershey candy bars!
Tour the factory
Independence Hall
In Philadelphia, we visited
Independence Hall. Leaders
from the 13 colonies met in this building on the first Independence Day in 1776,to sign the Declaration of
Independence.
We went back to Hershey, Pennsylvania and hopped on the train to get to our next destination
Our next stop was Washington, DC.
In Washington D.C., we got off the
train and took a bus tour of the amazing city. We visited The White
House, The Washington Monument, The Lincoln Memorial, and the Capital
Building. We really enjoyed seeing all the sites and paying tribute to all of the memorials. We wished we could have spent more time visiting our nation's capital, but it was time to move on to New York.
