General Information For Parents |
|

Every day your child will be bringing home a STAR Notebook in their backpack which contains daily organizational materials and many other important papers such as our Weekly Newsletter and Kids Korner publication,
important letters from Mr. Sackett or the main office, lunch
account information, class schedule, graded papers to be kept at home, papers to correct, and our weekly spelling list, behavior chart, reading log, etc. Be sure to read
my newsletter because it will keep you posted on classroom
happenings. Also, please unload the graded papers pocket daily and review them with your child if possible. Your child's STAR Notebook needs to be returned to school every day and the behavior chart will be filled out every Friday and needs to be signed by a parent every weekend. Please
make it a habit to check your child's backpack/bookbag each night for the STAR NOTEBOOK AND MAKE SURE IT IS RETURNED TO THEIR BACKPACK EACH NIGHT.
Also, I will be sending home a book order from Scholastic. If you
choose to order books, mark your selections and return the order form with your child's name on it in the zippered pouch along with your payment (check or cash).
About Reading
We begin Reading each
morning at 8:45. Our reading series is filled with many wonderful
stories and activities that will help your child become more
fluent readers. Many of the stories in our series are books you
can find in the library. There is also a
wonderful website you can visit that is an extension of our
reading series. It is located at www.PearsonSuccesNet.com.
This site extends lesson activites through research and inquiry
ideas. If the weekly story in our anthology is a novel, there are times when we will read the full novel instead of the shorten version in our anthology.
About Math
We begin Math each
morning at 10:45. Your child needs to continue practicing
their basic math facts, both multiplication and division through
12. There are many new math skills taught in fourth
grade and they will be much more prepared if they have memorized
these basic facts. Our Math series also has a web site you
can visit at www.eduplace.com/math/.
This site contains both student and parent resources. Under
student resources you will find math games, test prep, extra practice,
brain teasers, and many other fun activities that will help your child
become more successful in Math.
About Spelling
Each Monday your child
will be introduced to a new list of spelling words for the
week. Your child will complete two Spelling worksheets on Monday and Tuesday. On Wednesday, we practice the words on the computer and on Thursday we have a pre-test over 20 basic words, 5 review words, a bonus word and 5 dictation sentences. The dictation sentences are from the previous week's Spelling list. If your child gets a 100% on their word test or sentence test they do not have to retake them on Friday. Remember these spelling words are listed in our
Weekly Newsletter that come home at the end of each week in your child's STAR Notebook. The dictation sentences are not given until the Thursday pre-test. Some children like to practice their new words over the
weekend so they are familiar with them ahead of time. I ask that you
help your child study the words each week to help them prepare
for the final spelling test on Friday.
