We have been busy busy busy! We created a great deal of artwork
to be displayed for the elementary Christmas concert and it was shown
in the hallways of the elementary wing.
The gingerbread houses and clay leaf plates are now on display in the cabinet beside the art room in the secondary wing.
Kindergarten have been working on their art books page by page and just finished their page about texture.
1st grade just finished their leaf plates and will be working on their underwater sea scenes next.
2nd grade just finished their spinning spiral decorations and they are hanging in the 2nd grade hallway.
They will be working on the fact that people and objects cast shadows.
Weather permitting, we will do some hands on work with shadows outside
next week!
3rd grade just finished their "Visions of Sugarplums" dream
drawings and they are on display in the hallway outside the
office. They will be working on self portraits in the primary
colors next.
4th grade just finished their gingerbread houses and are working on
repetition and how that element works in artwork. They focused on
an artist named Keith Haring and are working on a mural in his style to
illustrate the part of speech "VERB! It's what you do!"
5th grade just finished their "Santa's in the chimney!" project and
they are hanging in the hallway outside the office. They will be
working on how artists use light and shadow in their work. We have
already looked at Rembrandt and how he used light. We will now be
looking at Vermeer and comparing and contrasting how the two artists
worked with light. We will be painting our own still life set-up using
a concentrated light source to emphasize a certain part of our painting.
6th grade just finished and introductory lesson on line drawing
Victorian Houses. They are now getting more fully into the art
element of line and looked at artists who use line in different ways in
their artwork. They also use a variety of other elements like
pattern, color, and space (overlapping of figures) to create their
compositions. We discussed these elements and how they worked
together in the paintings we saw and then talked about our next
project: "Fantasy Landscape." We will be using elements of reality
(landscape) with elements of fantasy (whatever their imagination can
come up with) to create a place we'd like to go to. We will use
the elements of line and color to create pattern and depth in our
landscapes.
